Why aren't there more Morgan blogs out there? Sheesh! Don't get me wrong, I love reading about horses in general, it's nice to see sides of Appys, QH's, Arabians, Saddlebreds and Mustangs, but where are the Morgans? I've even seen several blogs about Akhel Tekes and Barbs - aren't those rare breeds? Morgans aren't rare. They are beautiful, versatile AMERICAN bred horses. I've read three blogs regarding Morgans, one is a historical photo blog, one is a SHOW forum where people can pose their SHOW based questions and the other is nice, but focuses more on pictures. I do my best, but I'm no historian, I don't know much about breeding lines and history of the breed as a whole. I mean, I know the whole Justin Morgan story and about Figure and all that Jazz, but then as the breed splits off, it gets confusing for me. All I know is I love the breed, their flashy, intelligent and willing personalities just suit me. (NOTE: Rachel just brought this blog to my attention. A new Morgan owner, hurray! She and her beautiful guy are going to do Eventing!).
With that said, I found a few really cool historical videos. Notice the Western Pleasure horses and how they just kind of rip roar around the arena. Part of me wishes it were still like that in the show ring for all breeds. It would be a lot less work and a whole lot more fun to just kind of, well, ride without all that head setting and slowing/speeding/collecting business. Don't get me wrong, the current showhorses are stunning to look at and smooth to ride, I'm just sayin'....
Here's a video of an historical Morgan sire, Fleetwing and his get. He gets a bit of a shanking in the beginning, sorry if that offends, but this is some old skool stuff. It made me chuckle as it looks as though he was misbehaving and someone tried to do a quick editing job because it blips a little and comes back to a nice mannerly guy....stallions!
I think the JINGLE BELL horse must have been a Morgan. Don't you just love that music? He he.
