Weekend Rambler

I had a very busy yet fun weekend. Though it wasn't all horse related, I'm still going to write about it because, well, it's My Prerogative (who knew that's how you spell it)? - sing it Bobby!

HEH HEH!

Anyway, Friday night was spent at my parent's house. They just celebrated their 32nd anniversary, so B and I headed out to sip some beer on their porch. Apparently I sipped too many Mich Ultra Lites, because at about 11:00 I found myself staring at the porcelain bottom of my mom's toilet. Whew boy...if it's not embarrassing enough to get too tipsy on ULTRA lite beer, my mom made it worse by standing behind me incredulously remarking about how she'd never seen anyone get sick off of Ultra Lite beer...hmmm...you have now, Mom, you have now. Disclaimer: In case you're wondering if my parent's are a bunch of hillbillies, they're not. We were just enjoying our evening and I had a little too much of the good stuff.

My parents done raised me right. This here's my pap and I, he ain't no hillbilly! (ha ha, ironically, he's got a beer in his hand - it's just what we do)! Do you like my ribbons? They're hanging in my garage - my little spider webbed shrine.

Saturday morning I awoke to find myself in good spirits. Glad to have the night before behind me, I began preparing myself for my good friend Kerri's 30th birthday that evening. My stomach was a little grumpy, but other than that I was good to go. My group of friends and I spent the evening dancing and dancing and dancing and dancing. We danced straight from about 10:00 until 2:00 a.m. The bar we went to is HILARIOUS. It's actually a dance club that my friends and I had made fun of many times in our youth (early 20's). It's called Boogie Fever, and is known to attract some very interesting folk from all over. The bar plays mainly music from the 70's and 80's, and some people even dress up according to those decades. It's awesome for people watching too. Lots of people just breaking it down all funny like on that dance floor, I tell ya. This was only my 2nd time at this club (now that I'm older, it holds some appeal in that it is funny) - it was very much fun, but dancing to Footloose just about killed me.

The girls and I - due to my beer drinking extravaganza the night before, I stuck to water.

What's this? You say. Well, only the highlight of my night. This guy was just breakin' it down all over the place. He had us a laughin', so I asked if he'd pose in a picture with me. He explained eagerly that he was a professional ball room dancer, so of course he just had to show me his moves. The funniest part was that he was wearing his ballroom attire (tight shirt, polyester pants and puffed hair) and was just gettin' down and dirty to Whitney Houston and Madonna - LOL!

Sunday morning (after my very late night), I drove to my parent's house and rode Lady. Paint Girl and in2paints offered some really great tips on getting Lady's head and neck where we want them. My mom and I had both worked on her a bit, and she's really softening to the bit. Overall, it was a really nice but short ride.

After riding Lady, I headed out to J's to ride a horse or two. While there, Christi (I mentioned her in an earlier blog) showed up to ride her very first Morgan ever. I have to say that she did much better than she had the last time she came out, which showed me that she had been paying attention to my corrections. She saddled the horse properly and almost got the bridle on right. The only issue I took was when she went to knock her horse (Gizmo) in the gut for bloating while being cinched and she twisted his ear a bit while bridling, both big no-nos in my book. She said that she'd always used the knee knock into the gut technique with her Quarter horses, so when I explained to her that we don't do that, she took it well. I know she wasn't using force, but for us, we just tighten the cinch gradually. Once while saddling and then again after a brief walk to the arena - it works much better....I'm kind of losing track here.

Anyway, I rode Gypsy and between the four of us *Christi on Gizmo, I on Gypsy* we had a very nice ride. With some instruction from J, Christi was able to pick up the whole Morgan thing quite quickly. She made me laugh because though she was riding with Rommel reins, she had the whole split rein limp right arm down at the side thang goin' on. She agreed the Morgans were a much smoother ride and she seemed to really enjoy herself, which is what it's all about!

Gypsy was a good girl as usual. She is quite out of shape as I haven't ridden her regularly, but her canter has much improved since last summer. Now we're just working on getting her collected slowly and helping her keep balance. I love that mare!
On another note, I don't know what it is about myself, but I always seem to look festively plump in pictures while I'm riding. Maybe that ratty old saddle is just too small for me...??? Yes, that's what I'll tell myself.

Sounds like you had a really good weekend! I love Ultra beer! Actually I only drink light beer anyways, but don't recall ever getting sick off it, ha!
Sounds like Lady is doing well, and all the other horses!
I can't believe that girl punched the horse in the gut, I have never seen anyone do that before. To me that would make it worse and the horse would start to hate being cinched up even more thinking it's going to get a whack in the stomach. Glad your there to show her how to do things the right way!
