Sincerely

According to Wikipedia, serendipity is the propensity for making fortuitous discoveries while looking for something unrelated. Isn't life so Serendipitous? I absolutely love it.

I've had 2 very serendipitous moments this year. One was when the owner of my former horse Shaker contacted me after she googled her horses' name and came across my blog. She contacted me, even sending pictures. It was a wonderful moment, and though I haven't heard from her since, I hope she and Shaker are doing well.

The second occurred yesterday. This isn't as marvelous as the first instance, it's really just a minor thing, but it was cool to me nonetheless.

It all started with a phone call. J had called to figure out a time I could be at her farm to help her with Bobby and Contro. Two horses' she needed me to ride for potential buyers. I actually hate doing that, because for some reason I get jittery trying to make the horse look perfect. In doing that, I tense up and almost always make silly mistakes..ugh. I digress though, so J and I got to talking about who was coming up to look at the horses. Since I was sitting on the computer anyway, and I'm super nosy, I googled the persons' name. Through my inquiry I discovered that she owns a very well known Morgan World Champion. So, I googled that horses' name, which brought me to one particular farm's website. I was perusing this farm's website, clicking down through their former show horses, brood mares and current sales prospects, when I saw her. Actually, I saw her name under the Dam's name of a horse they owned. SINCERELY. That's her name.

The grand old Dame

I clicked her picture, and sure enough, it was her. Anyway, Sincerely was an old Broodmare that J used to own. The photo was actually taken at J's. In the background you can see J's old station wagon, and that's definitely HER farm! Who knows, maybe my scraggly ole' 15 year old self was holding that lead. J owned Sincerely back in the early to mid 90's. She was the sweetest old mare, I really loved her. She had quite a few foals at J's, but she wasn't a favorite producer. She wasn't the prettiest girl as she had a non-traditional Morgan look about her. It was said that she had Saddlebred blood in her lines somewhere. She actually looked more Saddlebred than Morgan, but regardless, she was sweet and an absolute doll. At some point, she was sold. I couldn't fathom who would buy her as a broodmare as when she was sold she had to have been 17 or 18, maybe older. I don't believe she was broke. I guess their purchase paid off because they ended up with a gorgeous and very succesful show horse out of her.

I guess now my question is answered - how serendipitous!
