Fickle Flower

Boy am I fickle about horses these days. For the longest time, I only ever imagined myself owning Morgans. In fact, I truly was a snob about it. Not that I disliked other breeds, but I definitely felt that Morgans were the best. I never really took note of other breeds, but did kind of stick my nose up at them. I still love Morgans to death, don't get me wrong, but through other horse blogs, I feel that I have been enlightened. In fact, it was blogging that got me to step aside and re-evaluate my take on riding. Until about a year ago, this was my dream horse:
And don't be fooled, I'd still love to get my hot little hands on her, but now I have my eyes on different disciplines, like Dressage instead of just showing hunt seat and western pleasure.

I am open to owning Morgan crosses and even other breeds outside of Morgans like Paints, TBs, Mutts :), Saddlebreds, Appendix QH's, etc. and now, one of my dream horses is a nice, big, beautiful moving WARMBLOOD of all things (as if 'cause I'm not about to pay upwards of $30,000.00 on one); I will always own Morgans, but I wouldn't mind another breed on the side too. A horse is a horse is a horse is a horse. When I was a kid, I couldn't have cared less about breed and pedigree, I just loved horses, any horse. How come as an adult, breed became something so important?

Anyway, I have been looking and looking and looking for nice Sport Morgan prospects. I want movement, so perhaps I could easily convert a nice Saddleseat or hunt, for that matter, show morgan? Anyway, I did find this farm, I really like their horses. What do you think? How about that Stallion? I like him, anyway. (he and his get are in the video below) Morgans, BABY!!

It's true--as kids, we don't care what kind of horse it is, what kind of dog it is, what kind of cat it is, we just WANT ONE! Being breed specific isn't bad though, it's just a matter of not being snooty towards other breeds. There can be some ferocity between breeds of any animal, but the point is we all like that ANIMAL right? =]
Like you said. A horse is a horse is a horse.

Well..I am a huge fan of sooo many breeds so I understand!! I am leaning more on mixed breeds lately for their benefit in health aspects (seemingly anyway). Wonder if they mix morgans and TB's? That would be fun! A Morbred? A Thorgan? lol!

I don't see anything wrong with being breed snooty. :) I think it's fantastic that we all love different breeds and feel ours is the best. It helps us promote our breed to others and (hopefully) put the breed's best interests first.

Oh, and just for the record, Paints are the best! ;)

Lexa - you're so right about that. Kids just don't care, as long as it has 4 hooves and neighs, it's perfect.

Kristen - I am a fan of many breeds too - even though this is a new realization. I've never heard of a TB/Morgan cross - I bet it would be awesome though!!!

There's nothing wrong with being breed snooty. I would be a hypocrite to say I'm not. I'm just kind of learning to appreciate other breeds now - you know, there are Morgans that are registered paints too. We have one in our barn, I'll have to take pics and post them!! Paints are great - Morgan Paints? Even better!!

I would totally own so many different breeds if I had the money. LOL, the time to ride them all and learn the different disciplines would be the problem. It's so hard to choose!!! I think your Star is a one in a million kind of horse - she sounds so wonderful and she is beautiful too!
