Meet "Gizmo". Gizmo is a 1997 Morgan gelding. J got him, somewhere - I don't know. He is one of the 22 horses the reside on her property. Bob, Contro and Gypsy also belong to J.
Gizmo is a great horse. He's about 15'2-15'3 and is great for kids and adults. He is trail safe, not spooky (generally), and rides both hunt and western. I believe Gizmo has had Dressage training in the past. Well, actually, the reason I wonder is because his canter que is different then other horses I've ridden in the past. Instead of tilting his head slightly to the outside and using the outside leg to cue for the inside lead, he does the opposite. For the longest, we just thought he wasn't trained to canter - then a light bulb went off in J's head. We decided after several frustrating canter departs, to try tilting his head slightly to the inside and queuing with the inside leg -voila! Gizmo canters with the best of them - he just goes about it a little differently. Is this a dressage thing? I have no idea. I don't even know where I got that idea actually :).
Anyway, Gizmo isn't the most gorgeous Morgan - but he's cute. There's something regal about him - he has the most gorgeous coloring in the summer. It's a deep reddish brown, and he dapples out nicely. I hear that he was shown as a 4-h horse, but I don't really know.
I am curious - what is the most you would pay for this horse? I think J wants too much for him, and I wonder what everyone else thinks.
J wants $6,000.00 - For $6,000.00 at this point, you can get a PRETTY NICE HORSE......Gizmo is a nice guy, but $6,000.00? I think if it were me, I would pay maybe $2,000.00 - $2,500.00 - maybe even down to $1,500.00 - not sure. The market is so bad for sellers right now. If the market were better maybe I'd pay $4,000.00. As a comparison, in 1996, when the market was much better, we got Shaker for $4,000.00. Shaker had been to Nationals, and was a proven succesful show horse in the Morgan circuit.

He is a nice looking horse, but I can tell you even horses that were 40k two years ago are going for under 5k now out here.. and those horses are typically proven.. so not sure. I think Sellers have to face a couple of things... if they can afford to keep the horse until the market turns or do they just want a good home for the horse? It is tough every where for every breed right now and selling horses.
