Mixing it Up

I admit it, I like mixed breed horses. I'm not saying that I think everyone should just go on out there and start breeding their x's to y's. No. I think that when done very carefully and with good selections of both sire and dam; AND with a goal for the resulting foal, a cross bred horse can be an amazing, athletic, healthy and competitive mount. Since I love the Morgan horse, I am certainly interested in Morgan crosses as well. Here are a few amazing Morgan crosses:
Morgan x Freisian

Okay, I'm already a fan of the Dutch Harness Horse, and I am loving this cross! Look at this horse trot!!!!!

Here's another gorgeous Morgan cross. I'm not sure what he's crossed with...a warmblood?

Of course, there's the Morab. I do like this stallion...he has the Arabian refinement and some of that Morgan brawn and style.

It is actually NOT easy to find a nice representative of a Morgan cross out there in internet land. I know they are out there too. I wonder if there are Morgan/TB crosses? I wonder how that would turn out? My guess is just so so. I don't think we need any more crosses, really, it's just interesting to see the results. I would LOVE to get my hands on the Dutch Harness Cross, that's for sure! DROOOLING.

I'm not positive but I think I've seen that dressage video before - I THINK it's a purebred Morgan, not a cross. Could be wrong tho.

Karen,

The sale video says that the horse is a Morgan Cross. It does not specify what he is crossed with though. :)

I love crosses too, but I totally agree with everything you said:)

I'm a big fan of appendix QH (QH x TB), my first horse.

I also adore Andalusian crosses, with just about anything. There was an andy x morgan at my last barn-actually, the barn you're taking dressage lessons at I believe! LOVE him, he's adorable:)

That harness horse was really something... I'm right with you on the drooling!

That's my current drool (I mean, aside from the Lambert morgans). If I had any money and land (or experience in training dressage) I would upgrade this poor, poor mare. It seems like a decent deal.

The mare looks like she might be pretty cute with some groceries and conditioning , and an Azteca mare and a 1/2 fresian, 1/2 azteca foal might be worth it someday. I bet if you came over with cash you could swoop the pair up for 2g.

Admittedly though, I can't tell anything about the foal's conformation - I'm terrible at that sort of thing when they're little like that. Still... I can't help but want to help out this little pair.

Miles on Miles,

I definitely like Appendix QH's too. They seem so incredibly athletic - they might be TOO much horse for me though :)

Becky,

You're right, that mare does look nice. How sad that she seems so thin - I wish you could upgrade her too. The foals sire looks nice, so I bet you're right in that he will grow up to be something. I can't tell if a foal will grow up to be nice either, it IS hard when they're teeny tiny and CUTE :).
