Horsin' Again!

I started lessons again. I am doing it not only as a form of exersize…excersize? How in the world do you spell that word? Exercise. Got it. Anyway, moving on…

So, I’ve continued riding pretty regularly, but only just trail riding. I really shouldn’t say only as it’s one of the most wonderful, peaceful, glorious activities I’ve been blessed with having access to (for free).

My Dad surprised me on my Birthday - his first ride in 30+ years :)

But – the crazy in me still misses competition and also just plain old lessons, which is strange considering that I’m really not a competitive person in general.
I had been thinking about lessons for a while, but couldn’t quite decide…Dressage? Jumping? I even considered just going with western (like reining/cutting/barrel racing stuff)…I’m eager to experience it all, really. Anyway, my choices are limited where I live, and my heart keeps pulling me back to my beloved Morgans. (It doesn’t help that my Facebook feed is inundated with tons of pictures of Morgans, and get this…my new boss’ daughter shows at the national level) ß--strange coincidence when I showed up for my interview and saw pictures of Morgans all over his office!!! J It may or may not have helped me get the job!

Anyway, the lesson. I decided to just go with a very affordable young trainer whom I’ve known forever. Young trainer is a bit (**cough, 8-10 years** younger than me, which is no matter. I really like New trainer’s attitude and positivity! Plus, new trainer kicked my butt in this lesson. I’m talking weights attached to all of my limbs, stirrup-less posting, one stirrup posting  - the works. 3 days later and I’m still ambling about like an old bowlegged cowboy…and I love it!

I don’t know where this will go as it all depends on time and money; I may even hand the reins over to Josie, who is now 3! I have another lesson in a week, so I’ll update.

Oh, I rode a horse that I knew as a foal, “Raider”. He was bred and born at J’s, actually. He’s now about 16 (not to age myself), but what a sweetie! At first I was a little bummed and was hoping for something with a little more…pazazz, but after that crazy strength/balance training lesson – I’m so glad I got “Raider”. He had so much motor at one point during an extended trot, I almost posted right out of the saddle…sheesh. I need a lot more work, lol.

Anyway, now that I actually having something going on –again- with horses, I have something to write about! J J J J
